Ultrasonic sensor arrays, patented AI acoustic classification, edge computing, and cloud analytics — engineered as one system, not a bundle of products.
What it does. Fluent tells you what is flowing inside a pipeline without cutting into it. Sensors mounted on the outside of the pipe interpret ultrasonic signals, and BSI's patented technology identifies the fluid (oil, gas, water, or contaminants) continuously and in real time.
Why it matters. Water is a leading driver of internal corrosion, which is responsible for a major share of pipeline failures. Knowing when water shows up in the line lets operators act before damage starts.
The verification of pipeline product quality can be a challenge for the operator. If available, ports are used to grab physical samples for laboratory testing. Analysis turnaround times are unpredictable. Continuous on-line processes are not always available and are typically focused on a narrow population of measurement parameters. Fluent brings the operator closer to answering product quality questions without impacting operations.
| Capability | BSI Fluent | Conventional Watercut & MPFM Meters | Ultrasonic Flow Meters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core technology | AI acoustic classification of ultrasound signal | Microwave resonance, gamma densitometry, electrical impedance | Transit-time ultrasonic flow measurement |
| What it detects | Fluid type (oil / gas / water / wastewater) + free water | Precise water-cut % and phase flow rates | Flow rate / velocity — not fluid type |
| Installation | Non-invasive — no cutting or welding | Inline / in-pipe, often a spool piece; some use radioactive source | Non-invasive |
| Best fit | Network-wide internal corrosion / ICDA screening | Custody transfer, fiscal metering | Flow verification, retrofit metering |
| IP protection | Patented AI classification method | Not AI-classification based | Patented mounting rail, not fluid ID |
Fluent isn't competing head-to-head against fiscal metering or flow verification — it creates a new category between them: non-invasive, continuous, AI-classified fluid identification purpose-built for integrity and corrosion-risk management.
The same acoustic classification engine behind Fluent runs a novel application in water reservoirs: continuous suspended-solids monitoring and reporting, around the clock instead of periodic manual sampling.
Illustrative week of reservoir readings — continuous monitoring catches the Thursday spike the moment it crosses threshold, instead of waiting for the next scheduled sample.
